Coastal Flooding

Coastal areas of the province are particularly susceptible to flooding caused by extreme weather events and their associated storm surges because many coastal communities are so close to the ocean. Assessing the risks of coastal flooding, and developing plans and deploying infrastructure to reduce these risks, is a key part of adapting to these impacts. For example, the SmartBay project in Placentia Bay provides information to help manage sustainable development of the bay's coastal areas and improve the safety and security of those at sea.
